Referring to the recent Israeli attack as a "mistake", Khamenei said Iran must Israel understand the true power of its people.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Sunday said that Israel exaggerates the impact of its attack on Iran, but it should not be minimized either, calling for the formation of a “global coalition” against the Israeli regime.

“Regarding the mistake they made, they are exaggerating it for their specific goals, but downplaying it and saying it was nothing important is also incorrect,” Khamenei said during a meeting with families of security members killed in the line of work.

The Israeli military conducted a series of airstrikes on Iranian military targets in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces on early Saturday, in retaliation for Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israel earlier this month. Iranian authorities said that the attack was largely ineffective, but did announce the death of four of its soldiers as a result of the strikes.

Khamenei said that Israel has miscalculated Iran’s capabilities and that the Islamic republic must make them understand the extent of its power and determination.

“They have miscalculations about Iran because they do not know Iran, the youth, and the Iranian nation, and they have not yet been able to properly understand the power, ability, initiative, and strength of the Iranian nation. We have to let them know that,” said the Iranian supreme leader.

He noted that Iran’s officials will be the ones to assess what is in the best interest of the country, and what needs to be done to show the power of the Iranian people to Israel.

Daniel Hagari, spokesperson of the Israeli army, said in a video statement following the airstrikes that they have “concluded the Israeli response to Iran’s attacks,” warning Iran against starting new escalations.

“If the regime in Iran were to make the mistake of beginning a new round of escalations, we will be obligated to respond,” said Hagari.

The Iranian foreign ministry said in a statement on Saturday that "Iran has the right and the duty to defend itself against foreign acts of aggression.”

The attack came weeks after Iran launched some 200 ballistic missiles toward Israeli territory.
