At least 12 people were killed and five others were wounded in the blast

 

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - A blast at a factory producing explosives in northwest Turkey’s Balikesir killed at least 12 people and injured five others on Tuesday morning, according to state media.

 

The explosion occurred in the capsule production section of the factory, which is located in the rural neighborhood of Kavakli of Karesi district. The cause of the blast has yet to be determined.

 

Several emergency crews were quickly dispatched to the site, according to Balikesir Governor Ismail Ustaoglu.

 

 

“We are currently at the scene with all our teams. Cooling efforts are ongoing. I wish our nation a speedy recovery,” state media cited the governor as saying.

 

Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc extended his condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He announced that relevant authorities have launched a probe into the incident.

 

On Sunday, four people lost their lives after an ambulance helicopter crashed into a hospital building in southwest Turkey’s Mugla province, later falling into an empty field.
