Iran’s military on Saturday claimed that the recent developments in Syria are part of an American-Israeli plan aimed at exploiting the region’s resources, stressing that Tehran is ready to “respond decisively” to any threats against its interests.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Iran’s military said in a statement on Saturday that the developments in Syria are the product of a US-Israeli scheme aimed at undermining the Islamic revolution and plundering the region’s resources.

“The recent events in the region, especially the developments on the Syrian scene, show the continuation of evil, insecurity and the depth of the hostility of global arrogance,” read a statement by the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces.

The statement claimed that what happened in Syria is the result of a joint American-Zionist plan, aimed at achieving their “evil goals” in the region, including “plundering resources and restricting Muslims.”

The statement added that Iranian armed forces are fully prepared to give a decisive response to any threats and aggression by what it called the “enemies of the Islamic Revolution.”

The remarks follow the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a critical ally of Tehran in the region. Analysts have described Assad’s downfall as a significant setback to Iran’s regional ambitions.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called the developments in Syria a “US-Israeli conspiracy,” reiterating that Iran does not rely on proxies to advance its policies in the Middle East.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged caution, saying, “Those who think they have achieved victories in Syria should not rush to conclusions; the future will bring many surprises.”

Mohsen Rezaei, a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and a member of the Expediency Council, previously stated that “the Syrian resistance will be revived within less than a year.” His comments drew sharp criticism from Syria’s new administration, which warned Tehran against interference in its internal affairs.

Asaad al-Shaibani, foreign minister in the new Syrian government, on Tuesday said that "Iran must respect the will of the Syrian people and the country's sovereignty and safety," warning Tehran against spreading chaos in Syria.
