A water infrastructure facility near the port city of Hodeida was bombed on Wednesday, marking the latest episode in an escalating US campaign of airstrikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - A series of airstrikes hit territory controlled by Houthi rebels in Yemen in the early hours of Wednesday morning, with Houthi media reporting four killed in the port city of Hodeida.

The strike in Hodeida targeted a water infrastructure facility, according to the Houthi’s health ministry, with spokesperson Anees Alasbahi reporting a death toll of four and three wounded.

Airstrikes also struck the Hajjah, Sadaa, and Sanaa governorates.

The bombings come amid an intensification of the campaign against the Houthis by the administration of US President Donald Trump, with recurrent strikes since March 15 reportedly having killed 65 people.

The Trump administration has repeatedly linked the targeting of Houthi forces with a “maximum pressure” campaign being taken against Iran, a vital ally of the rebels, in an attempt to force Tehran into official negotiations regarding its nuclear program.

The escalation this month came after the Houthis vowed to target Israeli ships following an Israeli decision to block aid entering the Gaza Strip.

Over 100 merchant vessels have been targeted by Houthi militants since November 2023, with the group targeting international shipping in response to Israel’s punitive military campaign in Gaza.

US warships have also repeatedly been targeted, with Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree on Wednesday stating that the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, from which most of the strikes on Yemen are launched, had been targeted "the third time in 24 hours."

The US military on Wednesday announced that a second aircraft carrier would be relocated to join the Truman in the Middle East.
