ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - An individual in Erbil has named his currency exchange market after US President Donald Trump because of what he said was his love for him.
Najat Yousif, in his seventies, said he opened the market at the very same time as Trump’s reelection as the 47th president of the United States of America in January.
"I wanted to choose a name that did not exist at all in the region, and at that time, Trump was reelected," Yousif told The New Region's media partner AVA Media. "I decided to name it after Trump. Some people like it, and others dislike it."
Yousif said the name of his office has gone viral in Erbil and beyond and that many people find it sarcastic.
He said when he went to the Erbil tax office upon the registration of his office, the employees were shocked with the name.
"I went to the tax [office]. They asked what the name of the [currency exchange market] was. I said, Trump. They said what?! I said, Trump. They immediately signed the papers, saying this name was dangerous,” he said with laughter.
Trump was sworn in as US president in January, ushering in another four-year term.
The Kurdistan Region and the US enjoy strong bilateral ties.
Soon after his return to the White House, Trump sent a letter to Nechirvan Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Region, stressing the need for cooperation.
“We greatly value our strong partnership with the US and look forward to working closely to advance peace, stability, and shared values,” Barzani congratulated Trump on his inauguration on January 20.
