ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on Thursday warned Iran that Tehran would suffer the same fate as its proxies and allies should they continue to provoke Israel.
Coming after last week’s missile attack on Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport by Iran’s Houthi allies in Yemen, Katz was unrelenting in his message to Iranian authorities: "You are directly responsible. What we have done to Hezbollah in Beirut, to Hamas in Gaza, to Assad in Damascus, we will do to you in Tehran too.”
Katz continued by directly addressing Tehran’s leadership, "I warn... Iranian leaders who finance, arm, and exploit the Houthi terrorist organization: the proxy system is terminated and the axis of evil has collapsed."
After repeated Houthi missile launches at Israeli territory, Tel Aviv hit back on Tuesday, staging a bombardment on the airport in Yemen’s capital of Sanaa that killed at least 3 people and caused over 500 million US dollars in damage.
Iran denied any involvement in the attack, though it praised the Houthis for their “courageous actions” in challenging what it dubbed as Israel’s “genocidal campaign” against Palestinians.
Iran has long used allied militant groups across the Middle East to target Israeli territory and interests.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Thursday fended off allegations that Tehran was in the midst of planning an attack on the Israeli embassy in London after seven Iranian nationals were arrested by British police.
“Iran in no uncertain terms categorically rejects any involvement in such actions and confirms that we have not been informed of any allegations via proper diplomatic channels," Araghchi wrote on X.
Both Hezbollah and Hamas had been battered by Israeli strikes in the wake of Hamas’s dramatic incursion into Israel on October 7, 2023, with myriad leaders having been assassinated in Israeli targeted killings.
