The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) needs 250,000 people to become poll officials, Jumana al-Ghalay, the IHEC’s spokesperson, announced. 

 

 

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iraq’s electoral body on Wednesday said more than 231,000 people have so far applied to be poll officials for the November parliamentary elections. 

 

The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) needs 250,000 people to become poll officials, Jumana al-Ghalay, the IHEC’s spokesperson, announced. 

 

The IHEC "needs approximately 250,000 poll officials, and the number of applicants, according to the latest figure on June 10, 2025, reached 231,016."

 

She detailed that applications will remain open until July 9.

 

Iraq is set to hold parliamentary elections on November 11, with 118 parties and 25 alliances having “expressed their desire to participate,” according to the IHEC.

 

Previous charts published by the electoral body show that the highest number of applicants comes from Baghdad, followed by Basra, Nineveh, and Muthannas, respectively, with Erbil seeing the lowest rate of applications. 

 

The upcoming November elections will establish the sixth term of the Iraqi legislature, with over 29 million people eligible to cast a ballot.
