Debris believed to be from an Iranian missile landed on a house in Iraq's Qadisiyah province, causing a fire, a source told The New Region.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Loud booms, believed to have been caused by Iranian projectiles headed toward Israel, were reported across several provinces in Iraq on Friday, with some falling missile remnants causing a large blaze in the southern part of the country.

On Friday evening, Iran launched hundreds of projectiles, including ballistic missiles, towards Israel in retaliation for Tel Aviv’s large-scale aerial campaign, which started earlier in the day.

Residents in the Iraqi provinces of Baghdad, Diyala, and Babil reported hearing loud explosions, likely from the Israel-bound Iranian projectiles. Civilians also documented pictures and videos of remnants of the projectiles crashing in Babil, Najaf, Anbar, and Dhi Qar provinces.

A source speaking to The New Region on condition of anonymity said that the remnants of a missile fell on a house in Qadisiyah province’s Diwaniyah. The house reportedly hosted a communications tower, and a fuel tank attached to the tower collapsed as a result of the impact, sparking a fire that spread widely in the vicinity.

Civil defense teams rushed to the scene and were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighboring houses, the source added, noting that relevant authorities have launched a probe into the incident.

Iraq has strongly condemned the Israeli attacks on Iran and lodged a formal complaint to the UN Security Council, accusing Israel of violating Iraqi airspace.

After closing its airspace on Friday amid the Israeli bombardments, Iraq's Civil Aviation Authority on Saturday extended the ban for all civilian flights until Saturday 1:00PM (Baghdad time).

Senior members of Iraq’s ruling Shiite Coordination Framework held an emergency meeting late Friday evening to discuss the recent escalation of violence between Iran and Israel and its direct impact on Iraq.
