"I'm not looking for a ceasefire, we're looking at better than a ceasefire," Trump told reporters on board Air Force One before arriving back in Washington, DC from a G7 summit in Canada.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - US President Donald Trump reiterated Tuesday that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons and added he was aiming for a “real end” to the fighting between Israel and Iran, as the conflict entered the fifth straight day.

"I'm not looking for a ceasefire, we're looking at better than a ceasefire," Trump told reporters on board Air Force One before arriving back in Washington, DC from a G7 summit in Canada.

Trump cut short a G7 summit in Canada, heading back to the US as Israel and Iran traded missile fire for a fifth straight day.

Trump said he was looking for "an end, a real end, not a ceasefire," adding that he wanted a "complete give-up" by Iran.

Trump said he ponders sending his special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, or Vice President JD Vance, to meet Iranian officials for discussions.

“It depends on what happens when I get back,” Trump said, reiterating that Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon.”

Tensions have escalated between Iran and Israel over the past five days, after Israel launched a large-scale offensive early Friday, targeting Iranian nuclear and military facilities across the country and killing over 200 people, including dozens of high-profile military commanders and nuclear scientists.

Iran has responded to the strikes, firing hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones toward Israeli territories, most of which have been intercepted by Israel’s air defenses. The Iranian strikes have killed at least 24 people and wounded over 500 others.

The escalations came days before Tehran and Washington were set to enter a sixth round of nuclear talks, mediated by Oman. The meeting was cancelled in light of the attacks.

Citing European and Middle Eastern officials, the Wall Street Journal on Monday reported that Iran has signaled its desire to resume nuclear talks and end the hostilities in messages conveyed to the US and Israel through Arab intermediaries.
