The latest exchange of fire between Iran and Israel saw the opposing sides dispute the target of a particular Iranian missile attack, with Tel Aviv claiming a hospital was targeted while Tehran insists the strike was on an Israeli intelligence base.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – A barrage of Iranian missiles penetrated Israel’s air defense systems on Thursday morning, making impact in several cities across the country and wounding dozens of people, according to Israeli authorities.

Sirens were sounded in several areas across Israel after the Israeli military said they identified incoming missiles from Iran on Thursday morning. Iranian state media announced that Tehran has launched a new wave of missile operations as part of Operation True Promise III against Israel.

Israeli media said that Iran had fired at least 30 ballistic missiles, striking the southern city of Beersheba and the central cities of Holon and Ramat Gan in the Tel Aviv district. At least 47 people were wounded in the Iranian attack, according to Israel's Magen David Adom rescue service, noting that at least 18 were injured “while running to shelter.”

At least 16 people were wounded, including three critically, as a result of the attack in Holon, while 20 were lightly injured in Ramat Gan, according to Israeli media. No injuries were reported in Beersheba, and no deaths have yet been reported in any of the attacks.

Israeli authorities claimed that the attack on Beersheba targeted a medical center. Iranian state media have denied the Israeli claims, stating that “the main target” of the attack was an Israeli intelligence base.

“These centers host thousands of military personnel, digital command systems, cyber operations and C4ISR systems of the Zionist army,” said Iranian state media.

Israel has vowed to respond to the attacks.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Thursday’s attacks targeted a hospital in Beersheba and “a civilian population” in central Israel.

“We will exact the full price from the tyrants in Tehran,” said the Israeli premier.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said that he and Netanyahu have instructed the military to “increase the intensity of attacks against strategic targets in Iran and against government targets in Tehran,” in light of Thursday’s attacks.

Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, on Thursday said they “will continuously attack any target belonging to the aggressor Zionist regime with the help of God and power, and we see no limitations in front of us."

The Iranian attacks coincided with Israeli strikes on the Khandab nuclear facility in central Iran, according to Iranian state media.

Iran and Israel have traded fire over the past week, sparked by an extensive Israeli bombardment early Friday, targeting Iranian nuclear and military facilities across the country.

Iranian strikes have killed at least 24 and injured over 800 in Israel, according to the latest official figures, while human rights groups have reported that over 600 have been killed and 1,300 wounded from Israeli attacks in Iran.
