Iraqi militia group Kataib Hezbollah has long enjoyed extensive support from Tehran, with a high-ranking official lashing out at “the foolish idiot [US President Donald] Trump" and threatening the US with severe consequences should it intervene on Israel's side in the ongoing conflict.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iraq’s Iran-backed Kataib Hezbollah on Thursday threatened “unprecedented calamities” for the United States if it decides to enter the Iran-Israel conflict, adding that threats to Iraq will not deter the armed group's fighters.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that they have “run out” of patience with Iran, asking for Tehran’s “unconditional surrender,” adding that the US “may” or “may not” join Israel in striking Iran.

The American president has previously stated that the US and Israel “now have full and complete control over the skies of Iran” and warned Tehran that it must make a deal regarding its nuclear program “before there is nothing left.”

Abu Ali al-Askari, a high-ranking official in the Kataib Hezbollah, on Thursday said “the foolish idiot Trump” has made a mistake in his assessments, claiming that Iran “possesses the necessary resilience to continue launching missiles of various ranges and technologies at the usurping entity [Israel], at the same pace for more than a year.”

“We reiterate that the American enemy's entry into this war will bring it unprecedented calamities and destruction, and may even deprive the thief Trump of the trillions he dreams of in the region,” the militiaman added.

Shortly after Israel began striking Iran, Trump posted on Truth Social that if “we are attacked in any way, shape or form by Iran, the full strength and might of the US Armed Forces will come down on you at levels never seen before.”

In his Thursday statement, Askari said that any threats directed toward Iraq “will not deter the Mujahideen from their fundamental cause, nor will they distract them from supporting the front of truth.”

Iran-backed Iraqi armed groups claimed hundreds of attacks against Israeli and American targets between October 2023 and October 2024 in response to the war in Gaza.

Iran and Israel have traded fire over the past week, sparked by an extensive Israeli bombardment early Friday, targeting Iranian nuclear and military facilities across the country.

Iranian strikes have killed at least 24 and injured over 800 in Israel, according to the latest official figures, while human rights groups have reported that over 600 have been killed and 1,300 wounded from Israeli attacks in Iran.
