There have been no material or human loss, the counterterrorism department said.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – The Kurdistan Region’s counterterrorism forces announced that  two explosive-laden drones were shot down in Erbil’s Daraban village on Sunday evening.

There have been no material or human loss as a result of the operation, the counterterrorism department said, adding that the “bomb-laden” drones were shot down at 5:10pm on Sunday evening. There has been no confirmation as to who the drones belonged to and where they were headed, as of the time of writing this article.

Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are situated between Israel and Iran, who are currently engaged in a military conflict after an Israeli attack earlier in June targeted multiple Iranian officials and nuclear sites.

The Kurdistan Region’s counterterrorism department have announced the shooting down a number of explosive-laden drones since the start of the conflict.

The Iraqi interior ministry announced Saturday that a fragment of a foreign aerial object that crashed in a neighborhood in the central Iraqi city of Samarra left at least five people injured after it landed close to a group of “children”, noting that the children were hospitalized and later discharged after receiving treatment.

The Iraqi government has repeatedly warned of the repercussions of the Iran-Israel conflict for the entire region, condemning the Israeli aggression on Iran while also urging a return to the negotiation table.

The escalation has sparked concerns in Iraq that the country would be drawn in to the conflict due to the presence of a large number of Iran-backed armed groups who have targeted American interests in the past.
