ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – A mass funeral service was held in Tehran on Saturday, as thousands gathered in the Iranian capital’s Enqelab Square to honor around 60 security officials and nuclear scientists who were killed during the 12-day Israeli conflict.

Dozens of top Iranian officials attended the ceremony, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

“We are alert and ready to pull the trigger; as everyone saw, the Supreme Leader said that this victory of perseverance belonged to the great Iranian nation,” Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni told state media at the square.

Ali Shamkhani, senior advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, also attended Saturday’s funeral service, marking his first public appearance since he was injured during the initial wave of Israeli attacks on Iran.

Israel launched a large-scale offensive against Iran on June 13, targeting Iranian nuclear and military facilities across the country and killing dozens of high-profile military commanders and nuclear scientists.

Notable Iranian officials killed in the Israeli attacks included: Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) chief Hossein Salami, nuclear scientist and former head of the country’s atomic energy organization Fereydoon Abbasi, physicist and President of the Islamic Azad University Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, the Chief of Staff of the Iran’s military Mohammad Bagheri, and IRGC Air Force Commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Thursday congratulated his compatriots on their conduct during the conflict with Israel and thanked the Iranian people for their support during the conflict.

“A nation of about ninety million people united, one voice, shoulder to shoulder, stood together, without any difference in their demands, in the intentions they express, they stood, chanted slogans, spoke [and] supported the actions of the armed forces,” said Khamenei.

At least 610 were killed and over 4,700 others injured in Iran during the 12-day conflict, according to the Iranian health ministry. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported that over 1,000 people were killed in the Israeli attacks on Iran.
