Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said that Washington’s inconsistency in dealing with Tehran “should be evaluated more in the context of psychological and media warfare than as a serious step to resolve issues.”

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei on Monday lashed out at the “contradictory and unstable behavior” of the US, expressing a desire on behalf of Tehran for diplomatic consistency.

“In recent months, we have witnessed contradictory and unstable behavior by America in such a way that one issue is raised in the morning and a new package of sanctions is imposed on Iran in the evening of the same day,” Baghaei said, referring to the levying of additional economic measures by Washington against Tehran.

“These frequent changes are not reliable and should be evaluated more in the context of psychological and media warfare than as a serious step to resolve issues,” the spokesperson continued.

The US belatedly joined an armed campaign initiated by Israel against Iranian nuclear targets in mid-June, using B-2 stealth bombers to target the country’s Fordow nuclear facility after accusing Tehran of accelerating towards the creation of nuclear weapons.

Baghaei said that the US strikes "dealt a serious blow to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.”

Lamenting the fact the attacks came at a time when the US and Iran were heavily engaged in talks to reach a peaceful accord on the latter’s nuclear program, Baghaei said that “at the height of diplomatic negotiations, the Zionist regime, in coordination with the United States, launched a military aggression against Iran, which was met with a decisive response from the Iranian armed forces and dissuaded the enemy from continuing the aggression.”

US President Donald Trump on Friday said that he would not hesitate to bomb Iran again if the country continues enriching uranium but noted that he does not believe Tehran will go back to its nuclear program “anytime soon.”

“During the last few days, I was working on the possible removal of sanctions, and other things, which would have given a much better chance to Iran at a full, fast, and complete recovery… But no, instead I get hit with a statement of anger, hatred, and disgust, and immediately dropped all work on sanction relief, and more,” Trump added, referring to comments made by Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in which he said Iran had “dealt a severe slap to America.”
