The Ansar al-Marjaiya Brigade has called on Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani to launch an investigation after the military denied reports of a drone attack on one of the group's camps in Baghdad.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - The Ansar al-Marjaiya Brigade urged Iraq’s prime minister to form a special committee to investigate an alleged drone attack on one of its camps in the capital, after the Iraqi military's Baghdad Operations Command dismissed the incident as false.

In a statement received by The New Region, the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) component said it had privately asked Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani to order an investigation to uncover the facts and make them public. However, the group said it was “surprised” when the commander of Baghdad Operations issued a statement denying the event “as if it happened on Mars.”

The brigade criticized the commander for not visiting the site before denying the reports and warned that such denial could be influenced by outside pressure.

“We ask for an independent committee that is not affected by weapons or loud statements, to investigate the incident and identify who benefits from targeting the fighters of Ansar al-Marjaiya,” the statement said.

The group also demanded a separate investigation into why the Baghdad commander denied the drone strike and who may have influenced that statement. It blamed “criminals who kill their fellow Iraqis for foreign interests” and stressed its loyalty only to Iraq and its people.

Earlier, several media outlets circulated images and reports claiming a drone had struck the brigade’s camp in the Taji district, causing a fire.

In response, the Baghdad Operations Command issued a statement saying the report was “false and baseless,” describing it as a rumor. It said no drone attack took place and called on media outlets to verify information with official sources.
