ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday described an Israeli attack targeting Hamas leadership in Doha as a “violation of international law,” calling for a peaceful solution to the conflicts in the region.

Israel on Tuesday conducted airstrikes against Hamas officials in Doha in an unprecedented attack on the Palestinian militant group's leadership in the Qatari capital, ushering in a wave of regional and international condemnations.

The Israeli military announced that it had "conducted a precise strike targeting the senior leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization," accusing its targets of being "directly responsible for the brutal October 7 massacre" and saying that they "have been orchestrating and managing the war against the State of Israel."

“The attack on the State of Qatar is a violation of international law. We support an urgent, peaceful solution to regional problems, and an end to all forms of tension and violence,” the Kurdish premier wrote in an X post on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Barzani’s words come a day after the Kurdistan Region’s presidency, in addition to myriad other regional and international countries ,voiced their discontent with the strikes. Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Turkey, Iran, and others all slammed the attacks, with statements from several western countries, such as France, Britain, and Canada, also condemning the offensive, among others.

Qatar's interior ministry announced that at least one member of its security forces was killed and multiple others injured in the attack. "According to preliminary information, the attack resulted in the martyrdom of Corporal Bader Saad Mohammed al-Humaidi al-Dosari, a member of the Internal Security Force," the interior ministry statement read.

Hamas meanwhile, suffered five casualties as a result of the attack, according to a statement following the attack.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a video statement on Wednesday called on Qatar "and all nations who harbor terrorists" to "expel them or... bring them to justice. Because if you don't, we will.”

Qatar has played a pivotal role in mediating dialogue between Israel and Hamas in the pursuit of a ceasefire in Gaza.
