“Netanyahu expressed his deep regret that Israel’s missile strike against Hamas targets in Qatar unintentionally killed a Qatari serviceman,” read the statement.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday apologized to his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani for Israel’s strike on Doha earlier this month, vowing not to target Qatar again.

On September 9, Israel conducted airstrikes against Hamas officials in Doha in an unprecedented attack on the Palestinian group's leadership in the Qatari capital, ushering in a wave of regional and international condemnations.

At least six people were killed in the attack, including a Qatari security forces member.

Netanyahu arrived at the White House on Monday for a meeting with US President Donald Trump, after Washington submitted a ceasefire proposal to end the war in Gaza.

During the meeting, Trump hosted a trilateral call with Netanyahu and Thani, according to a readout from the White House.

“Netanyahu expressed his deep regret that Israel’s missile strike against Hamas targets in Qatar unintentionally killed a Qatari serviceman,” read the statement.

“He [Netanyahu] further expressed regret that, in targeting Hamas leadership during hostage negotiations, Israel violated Qatari sovereignty and affirmed that Israel will not conduct such an attack again in the future,” the readout added, noting that the Qatari prime minister welcomed the assurances and expressed Doha’s readiness to continue contributing to the truce efforts.

Qatar had mediated negotiations between Israel and Hamas up until the strike on Doha.

The Qatari foreign ministry said in a statement that Thani affirmed the country’s “complete and categorical rejection of any infringement of its sovereignty.”

Soon after the strike on Doha, the White House said that Trump views Qatar as “a strong ally and friend of the United States,” adding that the American President assured Qatari officials that such an attack will not be repeated.

Doha hosted an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in mid-September to discuss adopting a unified stance against the Israeli aggression.
