ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – US President Donald Trump on Friday urged Israel to halt its bombardment of Gaza after Hamas said it agreed to key terms of a proposed peace plan and expressed readiness for further negotiations.
Trump said Hamas appeared “ready for a lasting PEACE,” on Truth Social, adding that Israel should “immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely.”
“We are already in discussions on details to be worked out,” he added, echoing Hamas’ call for continued talks on parts of the plan.
In a statement late Friday, Hamas asserted that matters in the proposal related to the future of the Gaza Strip and rights of the Palestinian people are “linked to a comprehensive national position,” and need to be “discussed through a comprehensive Palestinian national framework in which Hamas will participate and contribute responsibly.”
“This is not about Gaza alone, this is about long sought PEACE in the Middle East,” Trump said.
The comments came hours after Trump warned, “all hell, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas” if the group does not agree to the plan by Sunday.
Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday announced their agreement on a peace plan for the Gaza Strip, soon entering its third year of Israeli military occupation.
The 20-point peace proposal calls for an immediate ceasefire, the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the release of Israeli hostages, followed by a long-term security arrangement requiring Hamas’ disarmament.
According to the White House, the plan’s fourth point states: “Within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting this agreement, all hostages, alive and deceased, will be returned.” It also stipulates that Hamas “must accept not having any role in the governance of Gaza, directly, indirectly, or in any form.”

Turkey and Qatar soon hailed the Hamas approval of the Trump plan on Saturday.
“The State of Qatar welcomes the announcement by Hamas of its agreement to President Trump’s plan, and its readiness to release all hostages as part of the exchange framework outlined in the plan,” the Qatari foreign ministry said.

Israel's offensive in Gaza has killed over 66,000 people, most of whom are civilians, according to Gaza's health ministry, with growing international backlash, perhaps most salient in a torrent of recognition of Palestinian statehood by Western countries in recent times, placing pressure on Israel and its allies to bring a halt to the bloodshed.
