An AVA Media aid campaign and fundraiser for the victims of recent powerful floods that swept through several towns in the Kurdistan Region has raised over 100 million dinars, with dozens of truckloads of food and supplies dispatched to the affected areas.
Powerful flash floods struck the Kurdistan Region on Tuesday, centered around Sulaimani’s Chamchamal district, the town of Takia, as well as Shorash in Kirkuk province, as authorities scrambled to assist citizens.
The flood storm, while inspiring hope for drought-stricken Iraq, came at a high cost, with at least four people killed and dozens more injured or missing. It also left devastating financial damages in its wake, with hundreds of properties damaged and many families having gone homeless.
A campaign, launched by AVA Media late last week, has so far dispatched dozens of aid trucks to the affected areas and raised over 100 million dinars through a fundraiser account to help repair and refurnish flooded residential units.
Donations have poured in from all orders of society across the Kurdistan Region, through an FIB fundraiser account embedded below. The aid ranges from clothing to furniture, household appliances, and heating oil.

Several businessmen from across the Kurdistan Region have also responded to the call and donated hundreds of thousands of dinars to the cause.
AVA Media is currently the most viewed television station that labels itself as a combination of news and entertainment channel.
In a poll in August, the channel was found to be the most watched TV channel in the Kurdistan Region over the previous broadcasting season. The polling, conducted by the Kurdistan Region-based Rama Agency, was conducted across the Region’s four provinces, distributing over 5,000 surveys manually in public spaces across the provinces.
Another private research seen by The New Region earlier this year showed that voters turned to the channel by a large margin more than others when monitoring election campaigns and news.
In just over a year, the channel has won a number of international awards, including the Shorty Impact Award and the NYX Award.
