Asghar Jahangir, spokesperson for Iran’s judiciary, said during a Tuesday presser that Tehran’s so-called Lawyers’ Center has documented the damages caused by the war with Israel to “file a complaint against the leaders of the Zionist regime and also the criminal US government, which required gathering evidence.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iran’s judiciary on Tuesday announced that it is leveling complaints against American and Israeli leaders “in a second country” following documentation of damages from the 12-day war with Israel in June, aiming to subject them to international judicial prosecution with the assistance of international lawyers.

Israel killed top brass Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists with airstrikes in June, prompting retaliatory attacks by Tehran, with the two trading salvos of missiles and drones for 12 days. The US also bombed the key Natanz and Fordow nuclear sites in the country near the end of the conflict.

Iran has continuously urged international powers to condemn Israel’s attack and has called for compensation from Washington for the damages.

Jahangir noted that legal actions are being pursued “in a second country,” hoping that Tehran’s campaign could “subject them to international judicial prosecution.

The case has been carried out in coordination with “35 international lawyers,” he said.

In this regard, Tehran has worked with “140 domestic and foreign non-governmental organizations” to “create international conditions and a global campaign” aimed at condemning Israel worldwide, Jahangiri noted.

“These actions show that the judiciary, its various branches, and the country as a whole will not back down in response to the aggression carried out against the country, and that the aggressor will certainly not be left unpunished until final accountability is achieved,” he said.

Many strategic locations in Iran were targeted during the war, including key nuclear sites, the state-run IRIB broadcaster building, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and military bases, and the notorious Evin prison in northern Tehran.

“The damage caused to locations, facilities, and installations affected by the war was collected through site inspections, documented, and assessed for compensation by hundreds of official experts who are members of this center," Jahangir said.

The war erupted while Iran was engaged in nuclear negotiations with the US, leading to stalled dialogue between Tehran and Washington, followed by a series of international sanctions on Tehran for failing to meet its nuclear obligations.

In turn, Iran blocked the nuclear watchdog from maintaining oversight of its facilities, citing the termination of the nuclear deal’s commitments.
