The judiciary also accused Keshavarz of being affiliated to the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK), an Iranian dissident group, and claimed that his family had been loyalists of Iran’s overthrown Pahlavi royal dynasty.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iranian authorities on Saturday announced executing a man accused of conducting hundreds of missions for the Israeli Mossad intelligence, amid intensified crackdown on anti-government elements.

Aghil Keshavarz, an engineering student, was executed early Saturday on charges of “espionage on behalf of the Zionist regime and intelligence connection and cooperation with the regime, and photographing military and security sites,” the Iranian judiciary’s Mizan news agency stated.

The sentence was carried out “after confirmation by the Supreme Court and due legal process,” the outlet added.

The convict allegedly confessed to having carried out “more than 200 missions for the Zionist regime's intelligence service” across several Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, Urmia, and Shahrud.

Keshavarz’s missions supposedly involved forwarding sensitive information and target locations to the Israeli intelligence, as well as placing trackers and monitoring traffic on specific routes.

The judiciary also accused Keshavarz of being affiliated to the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK), an Iranian dissident group, and claimed that his family had been loyalists of Iran’s overthrown Pahlavi royal dynasty.

Throughout the 12-day war with Israel in June, Iran arrested over 700 alleged Israeli agents in the country, according to local outlets. At least 11 have been executed on charges of espionage since the war ended.

In late September, Iran executed Bahman Choobiasl, a man it labeled “one of the most important spies” of Israel, who was a database expert with access to sensitive state information.

Amnesty International in September reported that Iran has already executed more than 1,000 prisoners this year, the highest rate recorded in 15 years.
