ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Syria’s government said Thursday that Kurds are an “essential and original” part of the Syrian people, rejecting any portrayal of them as a separate or exceptional group, as it blamed renewed tensions in Aleppo on violations by the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
In a statement carried by state media, the government said it has provided protection, housing, and basic services to displaced Kurdish citizens alongside Arab residents, describing the move as a national and humanitarian responsibility aimed at enabling their safe and dignified return to their home areas.
The statement said the government believes solutions to current unrest do not lie in what it called “exhausted media rhetoric” or mutual accusations, but in state institutions, which it described as the sole guarantor of Syria’s unity and the protection of all citizens.
Kurdish forces in the beleaguered city, meanwhile, have accused Syrian state forces of numerous violations and the shelling of residential areas and hospitals.
The SDF on Thursday shared footage purporting to show the impact of shelling by Syrian state forces on the Khaled Fajr Hospital in Aleppo's Kurdish-majority Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood

The Kurdish-led internal security forces (Asayish) on Wednesday accused the same Syrian factions operating in Aleppo as those implicated in the aforementioned violence, noting they are listed on international sanctions lists due to what it described as a record of "grave violations."
The government, however, accused the SDF of violating an agreement reached on April 1, saying the breach undermined previous understandings and contributed directly to the current instability and escalation in northern Aleppo.
An April 1st agreement between the Civil Council of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods and the Syrian government saw the SDF evacuate the two neighborhoods in Aleppo, leaving the internal Asayish forces in charge.
“We explicitly demand the withdrawal of militia forces from the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh, and an end to this military presence that poses threat to civilian lives and obstructs any serious political solution,” the statement said
The statement concluded by saying that lasting stability cannot be achieved while weapons remain outside state control, insisting that restoring the rule of law and strengthening state institutions is the only path to preserving Syria’s unity and ensuring security for all citizens.
