“If we can get more [economic] assistance from our friends and neighbors, this will further serve the people of Kurdistan,” he said.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday arrived at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, where he is set to hold a series of high-profile meetings to boost Erbil’s ties with regional and international partners.

The Kurdish premier’s participation in the summit comes at the invitation of United Arab Emirates (UAE) Prime Minister and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

On the purpose of his participation, Barzani told reporters that he aims to discuss the “views of the Kurdistan Region, especially during this sensitive period in the region” with other top officials in attendance.

He stressed the importance of other countries “understanding our perspective and for us to understand how they view the developments in the Middle East and especially in our areas.”

The prime minister further noted that he seeks to engage in political and security discussions, stressing that the Kurdistan Region is a part of the “solution” to the regional problems.

“We have always said that the Kurdistan Region is part of the solution, and that solution could be political, could be related to providing security and stability, or could be related to the development of economy.”

Economic development is another focal point of the participation, according to Barzani, who emphasized its impact on “developing the Kurdistan Region.”

“If we can get more [economic] assistance from our friends and neighbors, this will further serve the people of Kurdistan,” he said.

Relations between Abu Dhabi and Erbil have seen major improvements during Masrour Barzani’s tenure.

In October, Barzani received an Emirati delegation in Erbil to discuss the expansion of bilateral cooperation and more than 30 Emirati initiatives "designed to bring UAE expertise to the Kurdistan Region."

A month prior, the Emirati government appointed Minister of State Saeed Mubarak Rashid al-Hajeri as the ministry’s Envoy for Special Affairs to the Kurdistan Region.

The World Governments Summit is a “global, non-profit organization dedicated to shaping the future of governments,” according to its website.

Barzani has taken part in several of the summit’s previous editions, contributing to boosting the KRG’s ties with the international community during his meetings with world officials on the sidelines of the event.
