ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Iraq’s ruling State Administration Coalition on Saturday strongly condemned attacks on the country amid the US-Israel war on Iran, stressing the need to avoid being dragged into the conflict.
“The coalition strongly condemned all attacks targeting Iraqi sovereignty, and any attacks that cause innocent casualties and fuel the cycle of conflict, rejecting the use of Iraqi land, territorial waters, and airspace in any hostile actions, and calling for the accountability of all those responsible,” the ruling coalition said in a statement.
It also “called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire and a return to the table of serious and sincere dialogue, resolving existing problems through dialogue and constructive diplomacy away from the logic of threats and wars.”
Iran has responded to the US-Israeli attacks by launching ballistic missiles and drones toward US interests across the region, killing at least six US personnel, while also causing heavy material damage and additional casualties in the countries hosting the bases.
So far, Iran and its proxies have targeted multiple countries amid the conflict, including Israel, Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Cyprus, Syria, Turkey, and Azerbaijan.
Iraq has been targeted by both sides of the conflict, with the US and Israel striking pro-Iran militias in southern and central Iraq while Iran and its proxies have targeted US interests both in federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
The State Administration Coalition reiterated its call on “all active parties in the region and influential powers” to work toward deescalation and end the war.
