ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and US envoy Tom Barrack condemned the recent attacks on the Kurdistan Region and the US embassy in Baghdad, over the phone on Saturday.
During the call, Barzani and Barrack "condemned the attacks on the Kurdistan Region and the US Embassy in Baghdad," according to an X post from the Kurdish premier. "We also discussed the situation in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider region," he added.
US interests in the Kurdistan Region and the Middle East have come under daily drone and missile attacks since the US and Israel began striking Iran in late February. Earlier on Saturday, an attack on the Emirati Consulate in Erbil injured two staff members.
The US embassy in Baghdad, and US bases located in the international airport have repeatedly come under attacks since the beginning of the conflict.
Groups operating under the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI), an umbrella of pro-Iran factions, have claimed responsibility for many of the attacks on Erbil and US and coalition bases in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have also targeted Erbil during the conflict.
Many factions within the IRI have been officially incorporated into the Iraqi state security apparatus as part of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
Kurdish authorities have repeatedly called on Baghdad to rein in the militias and hold those responsible accountable.
