A US State Department official told The New Region that Baghdad had not shared the locations of Iraqi security forces not involved in attacks on US interests.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – The United States on Wednesday blamed Iraq for not disclosing the locations of Iraqi security forces that are not involved in attacking US interests prior to attacks on Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) bases.

"In recent weeks, we have repeatedly requested that Iraqi authorities provide information about the locations of Iraqi Security Forces to promote the safety of forces on the ground that are not involved in attacks against the United States," a State Department official told The New Region.

"The Iraqi government has not provided this information," the official said.

Iran-backed Iraqi armed groups operating under the PMF have been one of the most salient targets of US-Israeli attacks throughout their war with Iran. PMF positions have been repeatedly struck, with casualties piling up in the pro-Iran groups' ranks as a result.

The State Department official noted that Washington remains prepared to work with Iraq to "defeat the terrorism that Iran-aligned terrorist militias have sought to unleash in Iraq and across the region."

Since the start of the war in late February, American-Israeli strikes have targeted PMF positions across the country, while pro-Iran groups operating under the umbrella of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq have repeatedly attacked US interests in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Earlier on Wednesday, an airstrike followed by artillery fire from an aircraft in Anbar's Habbaniyah killed at least seven Iraqi fighters, and injured 13 others, coming one day after another attack on Habbaniya one day prior, in which 15 PMF members, including the commander of Anbar operations were killed.

Another attack on Wednesday targeted a Kataib Hezbollah brigade in the border city of Al Qaim, with casualty tolls yet to be confirmed as of the time of this writing.

Many Iran-backed factions operating within the Islamic Resistance in Iraq have been officially incorporated into the Iraqi state security apparatus as part of the PMF, making Iraq a target for US-Israeli strikes.
