American-Israeli strikes have targeted PMF positions across the country since the start of the Iran war in late February, killing over 80 PMF fighters and wounding hundreds others.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on Saturday said at least three of its members were killed and four others injured in a US-Israeli strike on one of its positions in Kirkuk province.

Footage circulated on social media on Saturday evening of smoke billowing near Kirkuk International Airport, with a well-informed source telling The New Region that it was due to two strikes targeting a nearby PMF base.

“The headquarters of the Northern and Eastern Tigris Operations of the Popular Mobilization Forces in Kirkuk province was subjected to a treacherous Zionist-American attack this evening, Saturday, via three airstrikes,” read a statement from the Popular Mobilization Commission (PMC).

The PMC said that at least three fighters were killed in the attack and four others were wounded, per initial reports, stating that further details will be shared once available.

American-Israeli strikes have targeted PMF positions across the country since the start of the Iran war in late February, killing over 80 PMF fighters and wounding hundreds others.

The strikes are in response to attacks by pro-Iran militia groups operating under the umbrella of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, targeting US interests in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Many of the factions operating within the Islamic Resistance in Iraq have been officially incorporated into the Iraqi state security apparatus as part of the PMF, making the PMF a target for US-Israeli strikes.

Iraq's pro-Iran Harakat al-Nujaba militia group late Wednesday called on the Iraqi parliament and national forces to cancel the security cooperation with the United States in light of the strikes on PMF positions.

Iraq and the US on Friday announced the formation of a new joint committee aimed at increasing cooperation to prevent “terrorist attacks” and the use of Iraqi territory for “any aggression.”
