ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - An Iraqi resistance umbrella group on Thursday accused Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates of supporting attacks against Iran, singling out Jordan as being complicit in attacks on Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and urging Baghdad to employ punititive measures against its neighbor.
In a statement on Thursday, the group, identifying itself as the Iraqi Resistance Coordination Committee, said Jordan was a “launch point” for aircraft targeting fighters from the PMF and the Iraqi security forces.
The PMF, officially under the auspices of the Iraqi state, contain pro-Iran factions that have repeatedly targeted US interests in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq since the beginning of a US-Israeli military campaign against Iran in late February.
The use of Iraqi territory by pro-Iran factions has drawn regional condemnation, with a series of Gulf states and Jordan in late March urging Iraq to "immediately" stop attacks emanating from within Iraq's borders.
In a joint statement, the UAE, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar condemned strikes attributed to Iran-aligned factions in Iraq targeting neighboring countries and infrastructure.
The so-called Resistance on Thursday urged the Iraqi government to fully close the land border with Jordan and halt oil supplies to the country, saying that "this should serve as a lesson and a warning to all who betray the causes of their nation."
The statement sharply criticized what it described as the “alignment” of Jordanian, Saudi, and Emirati leaders with “Zionist-American” actions against Iran, calling it a betrayal of Iraqis that represents represents "the height of depravity and treachery" and demanding a “firm deterrent response.”
The group also said Iraqi resistance factions had targeted US forces in Kuwait in the early days of the current escalation but avoided damaging economic interests and infrastructure.
At the same time, it called for avoiding harm to Qatar’s interests, excluding US military bases, praising what it described as Doha’s “responsible” stance toward the Palestinian cause and the so-called Axis of Resistance.
The statement warned countries allied with the United States of consequences if their territories are used for attacks against Iran.
