ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - At least three people were killed and several others injured in renewed strikes targeting the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran’s (KDPI) ranks in Erbil on Friday.
The KDPI said one of the Iranian strikes that targeted its civilian camp killed a young man and critically wounded his father, a KDPI member. Unconfirmed reports later suggested that the father had also succumbed to his wounds.
In a separate attack, two female fighters of the group were killed and several other fighters were injured, the KDPI added.
Bases of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups were targeted in multiple drone attacks in the early hours of Thursday across the Kurdistan Region, with renewed strikes on the dissidents despite a ceasefire to the regional war.
The attacks come after US-Iran negotiations in Islamabad led to no deal after 21 hours of negotiations. Central disputes such as Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions, war reparations, and control of the waterway remain unresolved.
A two-week ceasefire between Tehran and Washington is set to expire on Wednesday, and uncertainties remain over whether it will be extended.
The Iranian Kurdish opposition groups have been under heavy attacks launched from Iranian territory since Tuesday.
On Tuesday, a female member of the Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan succumbed to her wounds sustained in an Iranian strike on the group’s base in Sulaimani’s Surdash area.
The alliance of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups on Wednesday condemned the Iranian strikes on the Kurdistan Region and the death of one of their fighters, saying, “these attacks will only deepen the unity of Kurdistan’s political forces and people in their struggle to end oppression and occupation.”
