"Despite the ceasefire and no actions initiated from the Kurdish side, IRGC forces have again targeted the civilian Azadi camp of PDKI in Koya tonight with 8 military drones,” said Hejar Berenji, the KDPI representative to the USA.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Several overnight suicide drone attacks targeted camps and bases of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) in Erbil, with no casualties reported in what the Iranian Kurdish opposition group termed attacks by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) despite the ongoing ceasefire.

Late Thursday, The New Region learned several explosions were heard near a purported base of the KDPI between Erbil’s Degala and Koya.

The Kurdistan Region has been repeatedly targeted by strikes since the outbreak of the regional conflict, with attacks continuing despite a ceasefire agreement announced between the US and Iran on April 8th.

“Moments ago, the Islamic Republic of Iran attacked civilian homes and farmland in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq with four suicide drones, striking near KDPI bases and the residences of party families in Koya,” the KDPI said in a statement late Thursday.

Kamal Karimi, a senior member of the KDPI, told The New Region that most of the drones “were shot down in the air” and noted that “no casualties or material damage resulted.”

Since the outbreak of war in February, KDPI bases and camps have been targeted in “more than 110 drone and missile attacks,” the party said.

The strikes have killed 10 people and wounded several others from the alliance of six Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, the statement added.

On Saturday, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said the Kurdistan Region has been targeted in a total of 809 attacks since the beginning of the war under what it referred to as “unfounded pretexts.”

Earlier in April, the Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) reported that even after the US-Iran ceasefire took effect on April 8, the Kurdistan Region had been targeted nearly 50 times by Iran and pro-Iran militias, with Iranian Kurdish opposition camps and bases as “the primary targets.”

“A larger proportion of attacks were conducted directly by Iran” compared with the pre-ceasefire period, CPT said.

CPT also added that 75 percent of post-ceasefire attacks were carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), while 25 percent were carried out by Iran-affiliated groups.

“Despite the ceasefire and no actions initiated from the Kurdish side, IRGC forces have again targeted the civilian Azadi camp of PDKI in Koya tonight with 8 military drones,” Hejar Berenji, the KDPI representative to the USA, said in a post on X.

Berenji said the attacks are “a clear violation of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region’s sovereignty.”

He called on Washington and its allies “to prevent Iran from attacking its own civilian citizens,” adding that “Kurdish parties have the full right to defend themselves.”
