ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Sunday it carried out retaliatory strikes against US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, claiming it "destroyed eight important US military facilities" in response to recent US attacks on Iranian territory.
The IRGC said the strikes targeted the US-operated Ali al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the US Fifth Fleet naval base in Port Salman, Bahrain.
Earlier, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its navy and air force had conducted strikes on ten Iranian military targets at multiple locations in and near the Strait of Hormuz in response to Iran's drone attack on the Panama-flagged M/T Kiku.
"Any enemy aggression, whatever the pretext, even against insignificant targets... will have a crushing response," the IRGC said.
Air raid sirens sounded twice in Bahrain on Sunday, according to the country's interior ministry. Kuwait’s army also wrote on X that its air defences are engaging “hostile missile and drone attacks.”
Washington and Tehran have exchanged retaliatory strikes since Thursday after the US accused Iran of attacking a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, the world's most important energy shipping route, largely closed by Iran for much of the conflict, which began in late February.
US President Donald Trump said Saturday that Iran would "no longer exist" if Washington is "forced" to resume the war.
Trump and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian signed an initial memorandum of understanding to end the war on June 17 to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
"There may come a point when we are no longer able to be reasonable, and will be forced to militarily complete the job that we very successfully started. If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Iran’s foreign ministry on Saturday strongly condemned US airstrikes targeting the country's southern coast, saying they violated the recently signed Tehran-Washington ceasefire agreement.
Addressing the escalation, US Vice President JD Vance said in a post on X that “violence will be met with violence,” adding that if Iran has disagreements over how the MoU is being implemented, “they can pick up the phone.”
