Adib Khalidian, a member of the party's leadership, told The New Region that eight of its fighters were injured in the attack.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - The Iranian Kurdish opposition Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) said early Sunday that one of its bases near Erbil came under a drone attack that wounded eight of its fighters.

A base belonging to the party near Erbil's northern Darashakran subdistrict came under attack by “Iranian occupier drones,” according to a PAK statement, which said “a number of Peshmerga have been wounded.”

Adib Khalidian, a member of the party's leadership, told The New Region that eight of its fighters were injured in the attack.

The strike marks the third consecutive day of attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region. On Friday night, the US-led global coalition intercepted at least eight drones over Erbil, just days after another eight drones targeted the city late Wednesday.

Iran also targeted Sulaimani on Friday with a missile attack on Zirgwezala that killed at least nine members of the Iranian Kurdish opposition group Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan.

Later on Friday night, a weapons depot in Sulaimani's Tasluja was targeted, igniting a large fire visible from several locations. A security source told The New Region that at least two drones were used in the attack.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Friday condemned the “unjustified” Iranian attacks, urging Tehran to halt its bombardment and calling on Baghdad and the international community to take a stance.

In May, Tehran declared the Kurdistan Region a site of “hostile bases” under its security doctrine, warning that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had been given the same designation, making both subject to preemptive strikes.

Pro-Iran Iraqi militias also extensively targeted the Region's energy infrastructure and military bases during Iran's conflict with the United States.
