ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Another fighter from Iranian Kurdish opposition Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan (Shorshger) died Tuesday from injuries sustained in an earlier missile attack on the group's bases in Sulaimani, raising the death toll to 10, a senior party member said.

Early Friday, a missile strike targeted the opposition group's base in Sulaimani's Zirgwezala area in the Tanjaro subdistrict, marking the deadliest attack on the Kurdistan Region since the start of the US-Israel war with Iran in late February.

“Another one of the Peshmerga fighters who was wounded in Zirgwezala has just lost his life a short while ago due to the severity of his wounds,” Ali Ranjbari, a member of the group’s central committee, told The New Region on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately, today, comrade Abubakr Hoshangi, one of those wounded in Friday's attack on Komala's bases in Zirgwezala and its surroundings, gave his precious life due to the severity of his wound,” the party said in a statement, confirming the toll had risen to ten.

“The blood of our martyred comrades will be the foundation for the continuation of our struggle and revolution,” the group said while offering condolences to the people of Kurdistan, especially Rojehalt.

Following renewed tensions between Iran and the United States, the Kurdistan Region is once again being targeted by airstrikes focused on US interests and the bases of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI), another Iranian Kurdish opposition group, said in June that Tehran had carried out nearly 140 missile and drone strikes on Kurdish opposition positions since the outbreak of the war.

In April, the alliance of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups condemned the repeated Iranian strikes on their bases in the Kurdistan Region, calling on the UN and the international community to take a stance against the attacks.

The Kurdistan Region was subjected to hundreds of drone and missile attacks from Iran and its Iraqi proxies from March up until the signing of the memorandum of understanding with the US in mid-June. The Region has come under renewed attacks since hostilities resumed between Tehran and Washington on July 8, only 21 days after the MoU was inked.
