ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – An explosion in a cafe in Moscow killed at least three people and injured over a dozen others, Russian state media reported Saturday.

Emergency teams have been dispatched to the scene of the incident in central Moscow’s Kudrinskaya Square, the state-owned TASS news agency said, adding that at least three people were killed.

The explosion was reportedly caused by faulty gas equipment in Moscow’s Balzi Rossi cafe, an upscale Italian establishment.

Despite media reports attributing the blast to a fault in gas equipment, the cause of the explosion has yet to be officially announced by Russian authorities.

The full toll of the wounded has yet to be determined, TASS and Ria Novosti, another state-run outlet, said, despite both agencies earlier reporting that at least 15 people were injured as a result of the incident.

The Russian health ministry announced that necessary medical assistance is being provided to those injured in the explosion, as forensic experts and investigators continue to examine the scene.

An ongoing night cycling festival near the cafe was suspended by authorities following the explosion, and bikers who continued their ride were dispersed by Russian police.

TASS said that two metro stations located near the cafe continued to operate normally after the explosion.
