ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday said that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is “completely healthy” following a lengthy meeting between the two, coming as Khamenei has yet to appear publicly following the February strike that killed his father.

On Sunday, Pezeshkian said he held his second in-person meeting with Mojtaba Khamenei since the war with the US broke out, with discussions focusing on the country’s economic situation and military affairs.

The newly elected supreme leader has made no public appearances since his election, with only written statements and letters published under his name.

“In the meeting we had with our beloved leader, which was a very good meeting, we were in his service [meeting] for about seven hours; we were able to discuss all the issues of the country,” Pezeshkian told reporters on Monday.

“In terms of being completely healthy, someone who can sit there and discuss with us for seven or eight hours can't be a person with problems,” Pezeshkian added.

Earlier in May, Pezeshkian described his first meeting with Khamenei as “prevailing,” while praising the supreme leader’s character and his engagement with others with “moral character and humility.”

Myriad top Iranian officials, including the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, were killed during the US-Israeli military campaign that commenced in late February, disrupting the balance of power in the Islamic Republic and positioning Khamenei's son, Mojtaba, as the new supreme leader.

However, the new supreme leader has yet to make a public appearance since his father's death, giving rise to speculation that he was severely wounded in the same strike and raising doubts regarding his effective control over the country's affairs.

US President Donald Trump in July said that Khamenei was "90 percent gone," coming as Washington and Tehran remain locked into a conflict that has seen various iterations of failed negotiations and renewed hostilities.

On Monday evening, Iranian state media announced that the supreme leader will announce the appointment of new high-ranking commanders in the Iranian armed forces later in the day.
