ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – At least two members of an Iranian Kurdish opposition group were lightly injured after Iranian missile strikes targeted one of its bases in Erbil’s Soran district on Tuesday, a party official said.

Amjad Hossein Panahi, a politburo member of Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan (Zahmatkeshan), told The New Region that two members were lightly injured in the attacks on the group’s base in Erbil’s Alana Valley.

Panahi said in a statement that the base was targeted at 1:20 pm, later detalining that three missiles struck the facility.

The Kurdistan Region has repeatedly come under Iranian attacks following renewed hostilities between Tehran and Washington, with strikes focusing on US interests and bases of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.

In an earlier statement, Panahi said that “although the attack was carried out with intensity, due to good preparedness and implementation of protective measures, Komala forces were able to protect themselves safely,” adding that there was no “official information” on casualties.

Panahi said the latest attack brings the total number of missiles and drones fired by Iran at the party's positions since the onset of the US-Iran war in late February to more than 102.

In mid-July, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) struck a base belonging to the party, wounding at least six members, according to the party.

In May, Tehran declared the Kurdistan Region a site of “hostile bases” under its security doctrine, warning that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had been given the same designation, making both subject to preemptive strikes.

Erbil has long insisted upon its neutrality in the broader regional conflict and repeatedly condemned Iranian strikes.
