ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – The United States revoked the visa of former Iraqi Finance Minister Taif Sami “this week,” a State Department official told Fox News, adding that she has also been put on the FBI’s terror watchlist without specifying the designation’s date.

Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs Dylan Johnson told the US-based outlet that Sami’s visa was revoked this week. “Under President [Donald] Trump and Secretary [Marco] Rubio, suspected terrorists will never be allowed to remain in the United States,” he noted.

Sami was in charge of Iraq’s finance ministry under former Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani’s cabinet, before she was replaced earlier in 2026 by Falih al-Sari.

The former minister was previously looked upon positively by the US, with the State Department awarding her its International Women of Courage Award in March of 2022 under former President Joe Biden’s administration.

“While the Biden State Department shamefully celebrated and awarded foreigners who threaten our nation, the Trump State Department revokes their visas and ensures these individuals are removed from our country,” Johnson said.

Fox News said that the department did not specify details regarding the date when Sami was placed on the watchlist, or the intelligence leading up to her designation.

Sami’s office in late June denied reports of her fleeing or being arrested during the early stages of a large-scale crackdown on corruption by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.
