ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – A refugee camp belonging to the Iranian Kurdish opposition group Komala of the Toilers of Kurdistan (Zahmatkeshan) was targeted by three drones in Sulaimani province early Monday, causing no casualties, the party said.

The attack took place at 4:43 a.m. at “a camp housing the families” of party members in the Surdash area of Sulaimani province, the party’s public relations officer Ali Ranjbar said in a statement.

Surdash is around 53 kilometers northwest of Sulaimani city.

“Although the attack caused material damage, fortunately there were no casualties, and all the families and our comrades are safe,” he added.

The Kurdistan Region Security Agency (Asayish) confirmed the attack, saying that “a refugee camp in Surdash was attacked with three drones” and that there were no casualties.

The group has been targeted several times since August, with one attack killing a female member who suffered severe wounds. 

In mid-July, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) struck a base belonging to the opposition group, wounding at least six members, according to the party.

“These attacks are being carried out continuously, even though, aside from women, children, and civilians, there is no military or party base at that location,” Ranjbari said Monday.

In May, Tehran declared the Kurdistan Region a site of “hostile bases” under its security doctrine, making it subject to preemptive strikes.

The Kurdistan Region has repeatedly come under Iranian attacks following renewed hostilities between Tehran and Washington, with strikes focusing on US interests and bases of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.

Erbil has long insisted upon its neutrality in the broader regional conflict and repeatedly condemned Iranian strikes.
