ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday accused sections of Iranians abroad of conspiring with the US and Israel to “incite the public,” as Washington calls on whistleblowers to come forward with information on Tehran’s financial lifelines.

“Some Iranians abroad, aligning themselves with the enemy, seek to incite the public within the country,” Pezeshkian said during a social event on Monday, as cited by state media.

He accused Washington of seeking “to cause social collapse through the problems and restrictions they have imposed,” adding that “the US has blocked routes and seeks to sow discord within the country.”

Pezeshkian stressed that if “we manage to maintain our unity and cohesion, we will never bow to the United States.”

Following nationwide protests in January, Tehran has taken strict measures to suppress dissent, including a mass campaign to confiscate the assets of individuals, particularly those living abroad, on charges of treason and supporting hostile actors against the state.

Meanwhile, the US Treasury on Monday called on individuals with information about Iranian financial networks and financial support to share it with American authorities in exchange for rewards.

“The Treasury launched Operation Economic Outcast to cut off all financial lifelines to the Iranian regime and its enablers,” US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent wrote on X, adding that “That’s why I issued a new call for whistleblowers to come forward with tips about those who facilitate Iran’s terror.”

Initially announced in late August, Operation Economic Outcast seeks to target Iranian financial connections around the globe, with an emphasis on secondary sanctions targeting countries and entities that facilitate Iranian oil exports and its shadow economy.

“To anyone worldwide with information on these lifelines: This is your chance. If you have actionable information for Treasury, you may be eligible for an award, no matter where you live or who signs your paycheck,” he added.

The Iranian government’s efforts to track down dissidents abroad have intensified in recent months, with Iranian state media on Monday promoting Alaj, a monitoring and intelligence platform aiming to identify individuals it describes as “traitors” and those opposing state interests.

Iranian media have previously reported on the documentation of “overseas traitors” by Alaj Group, but outlets affiliated with the government had not actively promoted the platform until Monday.

Alaj’s primary goal is to allegedly “safeguard national security and the interests of the Iranian people against anti-patriotic and separatist movements, as well as those advocating for sanctions and military attacks,” according to the platform’s official website.

The platform’s declared objectives also include imposing measures against those identified, including “freezing of assets and the revocation of consular and citizenship services.”
