ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – At least eight people were injured after a school shooter attacked a high school in Turkey’s western Manisa province on Tuesday morning, with the suspect being arrested shortly later, the governor’s office said.

“At approximately 07:59, a report was received regarding a shooting incident near the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Turgutlu district,” the office said in a statement posted on X, adding that law enforcement and medical teams were promptly dispatched to the scene.

“Initial findings indicate that eight people were affected by the incident. The injured individuals have been transported to the nearest medical facility,” it added.

The suspect, reportedly a 15-year-old boy, was captured on now-viral CCTV footage rushing away from the crime scene while carrying a rifle.

The local governor’s office said he has since been detained, and that further information will be shared once available.

A similar incident in April left at least 16 people wounded in the Kurdish-majority Sanliurfa province, after a 19-year-old former student of opened fire on a school.

The April attack wounded ten students, four teachers, a police officer, and a canteen worker, but led to no casualties.
