ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Three suspected drone strikes targeted Erbil’s Soran administration early Thursday, injuring at least one person, The New Region’s correspondent reported, with the projectiles landing in a residential area and prompting a swift response from civil defense teams. 

The attacks, carried out between 1 am and 2 am, targeted a residential area in the Soran administration over a period of 40 minutes, The New Region’s correspondent said.

Footage shows a blaze following the attacks in the residential area, with one striking a house, causing a blast that left one person with minor injuries. The third attack was carried out while civil defense teams were present at the scene. 

The Soran civil defense confirmed to The New Region that no fatalities were reported following the attacks.

The Kurdistan Region has been targeted by hundreds of drone and missile strikes since the outbreak of the US-Israeli war on Iran in February. Despite the warring parties having significantly wound down their attacks, the Region continues to be targeted. 

Earlier this month, the Kurdistan Region’s counterterrorism forces said that the US-led coalition intercepted 10 suicide drones over Erbil, without resulting in any casualties or injuries. Two other drones fell in Duhok’s Akre district, damaging a house and a farm.

Soon after, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) took responsibility for the attack. 

In late August, a suspected drone targeted the Soran administration in Erbil province, with the blast sparking a fire in a mountainous area.
