ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Three drones targeted the Azadi camp in Erbil’s Koya district early Monday, with no casualties reported, Kurdish security forces said. The camp reportedly houses members of a prominent Iranian Kurdish opposition group. 

The Sulaimani-based Kurdistan Region Security Agency (Asayish) said the drones targeted the camp between 1:40 and 2:10 am Monday, confirming that no casualties were recorded. 

The camp houses members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) and their families. In March, Koya district mayor Tariq Haydari told The New Region that the camp had been evacuated due to repeated Iranian attacks, with its current situation remaining unclear. 

Meanwhile, media affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported that the strikes targeted “separatist groups” in Koya.

The Azadi Camp was also targeted by two drones on June 8.

The Kurdistan Region has come under hundreds of drone and missile attacks since the beginning of the war.

The strikes have predominantly targeted Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region following a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran in June that lasted about three weeks. Other infrastructure and facilities have remained largely untouched.

The KDPI is among six members of the Iranian Kurdish opposition coalition known as the Alliance of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan, which was formed in February in a landmark step toward a unified Kurdish opposition in Iran.

In May, Tehran declared the Kurdistan Region a site of “hostile bases” under its security doctrine and warned that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had been given the same designation, making both subject to preemptive strikes.

The Kurdistan Region has long insisted on its neutrality in the broader regional conflict and has repeatedly condemned Iranian strikes.
