Pro-Iran Iraqi factions will participate in a response to Ismael Haniyeh's assassination, though no attack will be conducted from inside Iraq, a senior source confirms.

Pro-Iran armed factions will not conduct any attacks from Iraqi soil in response to the assassination of Hamas politburo chief Ismael Haniyeh, a prominent commander of the forces told The New Region on Saturday.

The commander, who spoke to The New Region on the condition of anonymity, said that the response to Haniyeh’s assassination will be conducted by Iranian, Iraqi, Yemeni, Lebanese, Syrian, and Jordanian armed factions.

“The response will target Israel exclusively and will affect both its naval and ground interests,” the commander said, adding that despite the involvement of Iraqi factions, no attack will be conducted from Iraqi territory.

Haniyeh, who was attending a ceremony to celebrate the inauguration of Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, was assassinated in Tehran on Wednesday in a bombing that targeted his residence north of Tehran. Iran said Israel assassinated Haniyeh with a remotely fired missile.

Iranian authorities have yet to reveal the results of an extensive investigation into the source of the attack on Haniyeh, Iraqi sources close to the Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) told The New Region.

"The response (to Haniyeh's assassination) is inevitable and legit," the commander said. "The planned attack will be on the heart of Israel and at sea, and will be larger than anyone expected."

The commander added that the planned attack against Israel will be a "practical" translation of the strategy of "unity of arenas and joint action" approved by the last two meetings of the commanders of the "Islamic Axis of Resistance" held in Iran and Lebanon in April.

Tensions have escalated in the Middle East following recent violent incidents. Iran warned Israel on Sunday against any new military "adventures" in Lebanon, cautioning that such actions could lead to "unpredictable consequences."

This came after a rocket strike on the occupied Golan Heights, which Israel blamed on Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

On Saturday, the Israeli military reported 12 deaths from a rocket strike on a football field in Majdal Shams, a town in the Israeli annexed Golan Heights.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani stated that any "ignorant move by the Zionist regime" could increase instability and war in the region.

He emphasized that Israel would bear responsibility for any "unexpected consequences."

Since Haniyeh's assassination, Iran has vowed a strong response, claiming that they are now committed to defend their honor as Haniyeh was a guest in their country.

"In these meetings, the commanders of the axis of resistance determined a list of strategic targets that needed to be destroyed. Most of these targets are inside Israel and at sea," the commander said. "The list of targets includes vital strategic sites, figures and various Israeli interests. All of them will be the target of the fire of the resistance factions.”

"The Israelis scored two points against us recently, with the assassination of Fuad Shukur in Beirut and Haniyeh in Tehran, so let them wait for the response and they will not wait long," the source added.
