An alleged Turkish drone strike targeted a base of the Kurdish security forces (Asayish) in Qamishli on Thursday, wounding four members of the force, a war monitor told The New Region.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - At least four members of local Kurdish security forces were wounded on Thursday in a "Turkish" drone attack on northern Syria’s predominantly Kurdish city of Qamishli, Hasakah province, a conflict observer confirmed to The New Region.

Rami Abdulrahman, head of the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) told the New Region that "a Turkish drone strike” targeted a base of the Internal Security Forces known as Asayish in an industrial area near al-Antariyah neighbourhood in Qamishli, "wounding four of the security forces, and causing material damages.”

The media office of the Qamishli Asayish described Thursday’s drone attack on one of their bases as an act of “terrorism” and "psychological warfare tactic against” the people of Qamishil.

"It is also intended to distract our forces from performing their duties in establishing security and stability, responding to citizens' reports, and providing necessary services to maintain their safety and security,” according to the Asaiysh whose statement was published by ANHA, a media outlet affiliated with Kurdish authorities of north and east Syria.

Turkey has accelerated its aerial warfare on the Kurdish enclave of north and east Syria, targeting local forces in Hasakah province.

According to SOHR, Ankara has carried out three drone attacks in the course of the past three days.

Earlier on Thursday, a drone attack pounded Karatshuk Mountain in Al-Malikiyah (Derek) countryside northeast of Hasakah. No casualties were reported in the attack.

Earlier this week, a “Turkish” drone attack struck a local security position near the heart and eye hospital in the industrial neighborhood of Qamishli, killing a security personnel and wounding another.

Since the beginning of 2024, Turkey has carried out 92 airstrikes on various locations in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria (AANES), killing a total of "29 persons and injuring over 27 combatants and 16 civilians, including three women and three children,” according to Abdulrahman.

Turkey labels the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and its military backbone, the People’s Protection Units (YPG), to be the Syrian wing of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) despite the group on several occasions claiming that they only share ideology with the PKK.

The PKK is an armed group that has fought for increased Kurdish rights in Turkey for decades, the group, designated as a terrorist organization by Ankara, uses mountainous areas of the Kurdistan Region as shelter and often engages in direct armed conflict with Turkey.
