DUBAI, UAE - Two Israeli soldiers were killed and 24 others injured, including two in critical condition, after an explosive drone launched from Iraq detonated in the Israeli annexed Golan Heights late Wednesday night, according to the Israeli military.
Israeli Army Radio reported that two drones were launched from Iraq and infiltrated Israeli annexed Golan Heights. While one drone was intercepted, the other exploded at a military base, causing casualties.
An initial investigation by the Israeli military indicated a failure to detect the explosive drone and activate warning sirens. As a result, soldiers were unaware the drone was approaching and were unable to take cover or defend themselves.
The attack comes amid a series of nearly daily drone launches by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, targeting vital Israeli sites.
Early Friday, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for attacking three targets in the Golan Heights and Tiberias with drones. The group also released footage purportedly showing the operations.
