DUBAI, UAE - Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani on Monday inaugurated three new schools in Baghdad and Maysan as part of a broader initiative to open 25 Farah Model Schools for orphans across Iraq. The schools are part of a government effort to support vulnerable children who have faced difficult circumstances, including those who have lost parents to conflict.

Sudani praised the initiative, calling it a significant step toward improving Iraq’s education system and supporting disadvantaged communities.

“This project reflects the government’s commitment to education and social responsibility,” Sudani said during the virtual ceremony, highlighting the importance of providing orphans with not only education but also psychological care and financial support.

The Farah Model Schools are the first phase of a larger project in partnership with China, which aims to build 1,000 schools across Iraq.

Sudani confirmed that education has already begun in four schools in Baghdad and Maysan, with additional schools expected to open soon. The first phase will see the establishment of 20 to 25 schools dedicated to orphans, offering them comprehensive care, including transportation, meals, and financial aid.

Sudani announced that all students enrolled in the schools will receive direct financial assistance. He instructed school administrations to work closely with the Social Protection Department to ensure timely distribution of funds.

The Iraqi prime minister emphasized the need for psychological and social support, noting that many of the students have endured traumatic experiences.

The initiative is supported by collaboration with UNICEF, which is helping develop psychological support programs for students. Religious and social organizations have also played a role in the project, and Sudani commended their contributions, stating that the government encourages efforts that promote social solidarity.

The Farah Model Schools project was established under the direction of Sudani’s office, under the supervision of the Governmental Communication Team. Existing schools or newly built facilities are being repurposed to serve orphans, offering specialized care, school uniforms, and support services.
