SDF’s Mazloum Abdi on Friday met with US CENTCOM Commander Michael Kurilla to discuss the latest developments in Syria and the ongoing war against terrorism.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Mazloum Abdi, commander of the US-backed, Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Friday met with commander of US Central Command Michael Kurilla to discuss Syria’s current situation and joint operations.

“The meeting was crucial for assessing Syria's current situation and joint operations against ISIS,” the SDF leader was quoted as saying in a press release by the SDF. “We emphasized the importance of international efforts to rehabilitate families in Al-Hol camp and secure prisons.”

Located in the Hasakah province in northern Syria, Al-Hol is one of the largest camps, hosting approximately 40,000 displaced people from 42 different nationalities, including families of Iraqi, Syrian, and foreign ISIS militants.

Kurilla met with Iraqi Army Chief of Staff Abdul Amir Yarallah and Deputy Commander of Iraqi Joint  Operations Command Qais al-Mohammadawi earlier on Wednesday, where they discussed the importance of repatriating Iraqi ISIS detainees from SDF-controlled centers in Syria and rehabilitating and reintegrating thousands of Iraqi citizens in the al-Hol camp.

“We reaffirmed the importance of strengthening partnerships and the critical role of the US in achieving a permanent ceasefire in Northeast Syria and ensuring security and stability across the entire country,” Abdi said.

Donald J. Trump, US President-elect, is set to be sworn into office on January 20, US’ foreign policies might experience a shift that can result in a different political scene in the Middle-East once he assumes office on Monday.

The Kurdish-led SDF rules over the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria, and is the US’ primary local ally in the fight against the ISIS.
