ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani held a series of high-level meetings Saturday with regional and international leaders on the sidelines of the 34th Arab Summit in Baghdad, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties, addressing pressing regional issues, and advancing joint efforts for peace and development.
Sudani met with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The talks highlighted Iraq’s emerging diplomatic role as the country assumes the presidency of the Arab League summit.
In his meeting with Emir Tamim, Sudani discussed bilateral relations between Iraq and Qatar and ways to boost cooperation across various fields.
The two leaders also reviewed key regional and international developments. The Qatari Emir congratulated Iraq on hosting the summit and praised the event’s organization and messages promoting economic partnerships and regional stability.
Sudani also met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, where the two leaders emphasized enhancing bilateral cooperation and maintaining coordination on shared regional concerns, with a focus on the Palestinian cause.
Sudani stressed the importance of joint Arab action and the need for decisive solutions to common challenges. El-Sisi, in turn, commended Iraq’s leadership in organizing the summit and its commitment to Arab cooperation and development.
In a separate meeting, Sudani welcomed Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, thanking him for attending the summit and for Spain’s support of Arab issues. He lauded the level of bilateral relations and existing agreements between Iraq and Spain.
Sanchez expressed appreciation for the invitation and affirmed Iraq’s constructive regional role and efforts to promote peace and security.
