Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on the sidelines of Monday's Arab-Islamic summit in the Qatari capital of Doha.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani met with numerous influential regional leaders on Monday on the sidelines of the Doha Arab-Islamic summit that dealt with Israel’s strike on Qatar last week.

The Iraqi premier, joined by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, represented Iraq in a Doha emergency summit, bringing together Arab and Islamic leaders to discuss adopting a unified stance against a recent Israeli strike on a Hamas headquarters in Qatar, which killed at least six, including one Qatari police officer.

The Iraqi prime minister met with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, where the pair discussed the prospect of furthering bilateral relations in the future. Erdogan underlined Iraq’s “active role in resolving regional crises…particularly the support it provided to the peace agreement between Turkey and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK),” read a statement from Sudani’s office. The Iraqi premier, meanwhile, thanked the Turkish president for cooperating with Baghdad in attempting to mitigate Iraq’s water crisis.

Sudani also met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), where they emphasized the importance of “implement[ing] the outcomes of the Arab Summit in Baghdad and the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha.” The two leaders also examined ways to advance bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries. MBS skipped the Arab summit in Baghdad, despite previous reports suggesting preparations for his attendance prior to the event.

The Iraqi leader also met with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, discussing the “serious repercussions of the continued violations and aggression” by Israel targeting regional countries, with Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, and most recently Qatar having borne Israeli attacks in 2025.

During his participation in the main event of the summit, Sudani proposed “issuing a unified Arab and Islamic stance condemning the aggression against the State of Qatar,” while calling for the formation of “a joint Arab-Islamic committee to present our position before the [UN] Security Council and international bodies.”

“I propose dealing with any attack on any Arab or Islamic country as a threat to all countries of the two blocs,” said the Iraqi prime minister. Sudani returned to Baghdad on Monday evening, upon concluding his participation in the summit and his sideline meetings.
