ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq – A well-informed source from the Iraqi Council of Ministers told The New Region that the cabinet decided during its Tuesday meeting to disburse the Kurdistan Region’s civil servant salaries for the month of July, contingent upon Erbil’s transfer of non-oil revenues.
The process is set to be completed in the next 48 hours, as the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) and the Iraqi finance ministry need some days to transfer the funds, according to the source.
The disbursement of August's and the following months’ salaries was also reportedly discussed during the Iraqi cabinet meeting.
An agreement was reached in July between the two governments, whereby the Kurdistan Region agreed to export 230,000 barrels of oil through the federal government's State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO), in addition to paying 120 billion Iraqi dinars in non-oil revenues to Baghdad as its share of the federal treasury, in exchange for salaries.
The New Region has learned that the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) finance ministry has prepared 120 billion dinars in non-oil revenues, and the sum is ready to be sent to Baghdad whenever requested.
A source from the ministry told The New Region that once Erbil receives the salaries, the KRG will begin the distribution and complete the process within three days.
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Saturday reiterated that the KRG has fulfilled all its commitments toward Baghdad when it comes to the salary disputes and that “no obstacles have ever been created” from Erbil’s side in this regard.
Civil servants in the Kurdistan Region received their salaries for June in September, while July and August salaries have yet to be disbursed by the Iraqi government.
